The Almighty Allah has bestowed the human beings with a superiority and has kept the rest of the creation under him. He says,’I have created man with the best parts. Whether it is the earth or atmosphere, sea or the mountain, forest or the desert, man not only has superiority upon all these but they are subservient to his commands and power. But Allah has also said that when I turned around this man, I found him to be the worst of the creation.


History of both minor and major occultation’s is a witness to the fact that. anyone who sought guidance received it, From Imam (A.S.). Today also if anyone sincerely, seeks guidance will receive it from ‘Imam (A.S.)’ Committing oneself completely to the wisdom and expediencies of Allah is mandatory on the representative of Allah, as Allah bestows the responsibility of guiding and leadership to those who not only stick to ordinance of Allah but their intentions are also guided by the desire and pleasure of Allah. As a result statements that flow from his mouth bear His assent.


Allah, the Blessed, the High says in the Holy Quran: “The day when We will call every people with their Imam”
(Bani Israel: 71)


Although all kinds of doubts have been raised regarding ‘Mahdaviyat’, the matter of ‘Ghaibat’ (occultation) seems to be the most complicated one – as regards it’s concept and significance. It is for this very reason that to have belief in the Hidden Imam is one of the necessary qualifications of a believer. Traditions regarding the occultation of Imam Mahdi (A.S.) are found in exceedingly large numbers in the books of both the Sunnis and the Shias.


After the year 329 A.H, when the major occultation commenced, the special deputation of Imam e Zamana (a.s.) terminated. If anybody claims during the major occultation to be a mediator and a deputy, then, according to the declaration of Imam e Zamana (a.s.) himself,


The Imam or the divine representative is needed not merely for the dissemination of the rules of the Shariah and their compliance. That is, his duty is not confined only to the guidance of the world but the whole creation depends upon him for their existence. If Imam ceases to exist, the entire system would collapse. It is related from Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (A.S.) that he stated, “If Imam (A.S.) is absent from the world even for a moment, the earth would suck in all its inhabitants like the stormy sea drowns the seafarers. ” (Ghaibat¬e-Nomani, p. 139, Chap. 8, Hadith No. 10)


The occultation of Hazrat Imam Mahdi (A.S.) was an abrupt affair which was absolutely unex-pected and hence people were not prepared for the same. If we study those traditions which are related to Hazrat Imam Mahdi (A.S.), then it becomes crystal clear that from the very begin-ning whenever his attributes were described, then even his occultation was mentioned along with his characteristics. It has been repeated so often that the personality of Hazrat Mahdi (A.S.) be-comes inconceivable without the occultation,


Whenever the discussion of occultation crops up, queries of various kinds invade the minds of the people. The most common among them being as to what is the benefit of an Imam who is in occultation? In other words, what is the purpose of having a leader with whom neither we can come in contact nor meet? In this article, we shall attempt to convey to our readers the answer to the query and make people realize as to how can one derive advantages from an Imam during occultation.
